9 Expert Tips on Buying Running Shoes
When it comes to running there is only really one piece of important “equipment” which is needed and that piece of equipment is good running shoes. I can not stress enough the importance of good runners that are specific to your foot style. If you don’t get good sneakers then you may end up with blisters, you may lose a toenail or even worse. Besides the unnecessary pains, you will also experience a great amount of discomfort while you are running.
Below you will find 9 tips to help you choose and buy a good pair of running shoes.
1. Always go with shoes that are at least half an inch longer in front. This will ensure that your toes are not cramped when you run. One easy way to check this is to wriggle your toes. If they can move around easily you are good.
2. Those of you that can afford it should make sure that you get two pairs of runners. This will allow you to alternate them and will not only increase the life that you get out of the shoe, but it will allow them to air out longer which is very important if you are a long distance runner.
3. You will find how good your shoes are only when you run long distances wearing them. Just going for short runs is not enough; go for at least one long run to find out how they are.
4. If you have a running event coming up, make sure that you buy your new running shoes in plenty of time to wear them in and get used to them during your training runs. That way you can go for a couple of runs wearing them to find out how comfortable they really are. Never wear a brand new pair of shoes on the day of the event.
5. One thing that you may notice is that shoes will feel comfortable during the time that you are walking in them but then they start to get uncomfortable as you run in them. You need to go to a sports specific store so that you can buy your shoes. Often, they will have treadmills for customers to try out their running shoes inside. Watch out for any looseness behind your heel and check to see whether the balls of your feet are gripped firmly while your toes are still left free. You should remember that once you buy them it is very difficult to return them if you have worn them outside.
6. It doesn’t matter how hard you try to break in the shoes, if they are a badly fitting shoe that’s what they are going to remain. You need to make sure that you get ones that will fit well and you should take your time picking out the right shoe. Paying a little more money and getting a shoe that fits good is worth it.
7. As you check on different runners, you will notice that they have different capabilities. You will find some that are made to be worn on the track only and others can be worn on harder surfaces such as pavement. There are even other options such as ones that are made to run on rough terrain which would be used for trail running. If you are going to doing off-road running then you should get runners which are designed for this. If you decide to choose the cheapest running shoe it will not make the run comfortable and the shoe will wear out too quickly.
8. Make sure that you replace your shoes when they wear out. Everything has a life including your shoes. This life span differs depending on how the runner was constructed, but, on average, running shoes will last 500 miles. Plus, if you are a mid foot runner, it is possible that your shoes will last longer than others.
9. Purchasing your shoes later in the afternoon is a good idea since your feet expand during the day and are bigger in the evenings than in the mornings. When you do this you will make sure that you won’t end up with tight fitting shoes. Also be sure that you wear the same kind of socks that you are going to wear when you are running. Just bring a pair of running socks when you go shopping.
